Icy Hyde Park
Hyde Park Enchanted Winter Palace. Actually it's the Lido. I wonder how you say "It's bloody freezing!" in Bird?

Icy Hyde Park
Took another trip to Hyde Park. I was going to park-up there and walk along to the Winter Wonderland and take some more pictures for this blog, as the last time I went the batteries pooped on my camera.

Normally I walk to Hyde Park, it's not very far but due to the weather and the fact I was "on a mission" I decided to take the car. That said, I don't need an excuse to use the Range Rover in the snow...that's what I bought it for (skiing in Scotland and France)!

Hadn't parked there before so wasn't quite sure about the parking meter. I never use meters, I either walk or park the car in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea where I have a residents' parking permit. So I made a bit of an arse of it and only got a ticket for 25 minutes!

Then I wasn't sure what to do. Should I get another ticket? That would mean two tickets running concurrently for 25 minutes. Bit daft. Or do I let the first ticket lapse then get another? Doing that I would be 25 minutes away, or to put it another way, I could go 12.5 minutes away, allowing 12.5 minutes to get back for a second ticket.

Problems, problems. In the end up, I decided to take it as it came. I walked the short way to the water (the Serpentine). It was bloody freezing so that decided it. I would just take some pictures and get back in the car! (As I type, some prick is blasting his horn outside...THE single most annoying thing about London Town!)

Took some pics as you can see. Another excuse to post a picture of my very pretty car.

Snow in London Town!
So the snow has finally hit London Town!! Yippee! How festive!! (He said as a skier!)

A lot of the country had been getting quite heavy snow, particularly in the East and particularly in Scotland (great for the ski resorts!) but London Town was escaping it, until today. There was about an inch or two in places, even cover.

Took these pics at Hyde Park in the Triangle car park off West Carriage Drive. Partly an excuse to post pictures of my very pretty car!

Mirror Art in Kensington Gardens
They've got some mirror art installations in Kensington Gardens. Saw this one for the first time today. Pretty stunning. It's basically a ruddy great big mirror! It's reflective on both sides. It's overlooking the Long Water. Looks like the Moon has fallen to Earth!

Was a very cold day, must have been about freezing. Part of the water is frozen, you can see the birds standing on it. There was also some frost on the ground. No snow though, although other parts of the country did have some and a place in Wales got -17 degrees the night before!

Winter Wonderland 2010!
Winter Wonderland 2010!

Winter Wonderland 2010!
Once again in Hyde Park they are hosting the Winter Wonderland...a bunch of tacky rides with tinsel on them!

That's being unfair, yes there are some tacky rides with the "ride guys" leering at the passing ladies, much to their satisfaction...but there's a lot of nice festive, quality stands there.

You've got fun rides, food stalls, beer stalls, Christmas goods stalls...all good festive stuff. As a chap who used to sell Christmas trees, I love it!

Seems to be much bigger than last year. They've got a big ice rink and two very big "rides"...the type of things that chuck you about...quite impressive. They also have the "Observation Wheel" which looks a lot like the "London Eye".

Took my new camera with me, was walking into town, figured I would go via the Winter Wonderland and get some festive pictures for the blog. Only took two pictures when the piggin' batteries pooped on me!!!

Anyway, it's a hoot. Try and avoid evenings and weekends if you can...it gets VERY busy. Check out the official website below.

Indian Summer!
Serpentine Bar & Kitchen in Hyde Park

Indian Summer!
Glorious sunny day today (Friday October 8th), 20 degrees, with 22 degrees forecast for the weekend!

Went into town. Sat on the steps of the Eros statue at Piccadilly Circus and had a smoke, amongst some others doing the same thing. Basking in sunshine watching the people and traffic go by, everyone enjoying the sunshine. It was proper warm too, I was only wearing a thin tee shirt.

Walked through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens on my way back to South Kensington. Wonderful atmosphere about the place. Not too busy, about 2 o'clock on a Friday afternoon, mainly tourists about. The guys doing roller-blading in Hyde Park were bare-chested, showing off as usual!

Spitfire at the MOD

Buildings opposite the MOD

Spitfire at the MOD
This year is the seventieth anniversary of the Battle Of Britain, and there's various events going on to mark it.

I heard on the radio that there was a big event in town today, including a flypast of Spitfires, so I headed into town to the Ministry Of Defence, as I knew they had a Spitfire on display there.

I saw the Spitfire but there was no sign of any event going on. I later heard on the radio that they had unveiled a statue nearby, I think in Waterloo Place, off Pall Mall. Wherever it was, I missed it!

In the picture opposite, the Spitfire looks quite small because it is next to a "larger than life" statue of Monty!

Also took a picture of some buildings opposite the main door of the MOD because they looked pretty stunning and I thought the tree made a nice contrast to them. I don't know what the buildings are. Judging by their location I would say they were Government buildings. If so, it's nice to know I have a share in such prime properties.

It was quite a nice sunny day but very windy and a tad on the cold side in the shade. I think the summer is about done.

The London Long Copy Challenge

The London Long Copy Challenge
Got an email from the folks at CBS Outdoor, advertising agency. They are running a competition to demonstrate that long copy is not dead in tube ads!

All you need to do is provide long copy for a tube ad. I suppose when you think about it, long copy is good for a poster on a tube platform because you often find yourself staring at posters when waiting on a train because you have nothing else to look at, and you have time to read it.

More info below.

Blair Protest - Change of venue

Blair Protest - Change of venue
Tony Blair today announced that he will not be appearing at Waterstones on September 8th to sign copies of his book. He said he cancelled the signing because he didn't want to cause any hassle for the Met Police or the public.

Interesting, the prospect of hassling the good folks of Iraq didn't seem to bother him much as he bombed the living daylights out of them.

The protest will now take place on the same day at the Tate Modern art gallery at 5.30pm where Blair is hosting a launch party for his book.

Chelsea Autolegends - Car Show

Chelsea Autolegends - Car Show
The inaugural Chelsea Autolegends car show is taking place at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, on Sunday September 5th 2010.

It is mainly focusing on the Le Mans 24 hour sportscar race. Sir Stirling Moss will be opening the show. Five-time Le Mans winner, Derek Bell MBE will also be there.

There will also be a display of classic cars. I quite fancy attending this but you only have to walk around London Town to see snazzy or classic cars!

Admission is £12 by advance ticket sale only.
