7/7 Memorial in Hyde Park

7/7 Memorial in Hyde Park
They have recently erected a memorial in Hyde Park in memory of those who were killed in the bombings in London on July 7th 2005. It is on the edge of the park, next to Park Lane, across from the Dorchester Hotel.

I presume there is a pillar for each person that was killed. The pillars are made from concrete (edited July 25th 2009 - According to the Royal Parks website - the pillars are made from stainless steel, but look like concrete) and are inscribed with the location where the person died, as you can see in the picture below.

I wonder if Tony Blair will be showing his face here?

Music in Mayfair!
Wind Quintet - Brown Hart Gardens - Mayfair

Music in Mayfair!
Strolling through Mayfair today, as one does, I could hear music playing. It was a wind quintet at Brown Hart Gardens (close to Bond Street tube station on Oxford Street). They are having concerts there, every Friday in the summer. More info below.

According to their website, the musicians are: Flute - Julian Sperry, Oboe - Judy Proctor, Clarinet - Jane Calderbank, Bassoon - Stuart Russell and Horn - Adam Walters.

Adam on the horn, looks quite fetching!

Flying-Ants Day!
Just spotted a lot of flying-ants about the place. You seem to get them for one or two days in the year, then you never see them again.

Must be great if you're a swallow, a swift or a house martin!

Update 25th July 2009: Just spotted another swarm of them! Looks like they don't just come out for one day!

Invisible Menders
There's a shop next to me, called "Invisible Menders". I just walked past it, I could clearly see the menders inside, mending away.

I think at the very least, we could be looking at contraventions of the Trade Descriptions Act here.

Ferrari Shop
Ferrari Shop - Regent Street

Ferrari Shop
A new Ferrari shop has opened on Regent Street, across from Hamley's toy shop. The picture opposite is taken from the pavement outside, looking into the shop. That's a real car, and there's a real engine beside it!

Prices were a bit steep. Was about £30-£40 for a tee shirt!

Snazzy Cars!!
One of the things I love about London Town are the snazzy cars! Some pics opposite.

The Bugatti Veyron was parked outside the Westbury hotel, 37 Conduit Street, in Mayfair on June 26th 2009. It was really stunning...EVERY bloke that passed it, took a picture of it!!

Here's a nice orange Lamborghini Murcielago SV (as if they could be anything but nice!) photographed next to the London Lamborghini showroom in South Kensington on July 10th 2009. Looked like the guy was just picking it up.

I spotted the grey Lambo on the same day as the orange one. It was outside the Dorchester Hotel on Park Lane. The number plate looks Arabic to me (not being an expert on such matters). I reckon the driver probably owns an oil well or two!!

New Blog - First Post
This is a new blog. Just testing for now. It's a blog about London Town (London UK).

At the time of writing, Wednesday 15th July 2009, it's supposed to be the summer but it's a bit cloudy, damp and breezy out!
